As suggested by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, the College has established a Grievance Redressal Cell. It looks into general and academic complaints of the staff and students. It provides a mechanism for redressal of students' grievances and ensures transparency in admission and prevention of unfair practices etc. The function of the Cell is to look into the complaints lodged by any student and judge its merit. The Grievance cell is also empowered to look into matters of harassment. If the grievances are not within the purview of the committee, then the issues are brought to the notice of the authorities.
In Carmel College, a Grievance Redressal Cell is formed to keep the healthy working atmosphere amongst staff and students. It is a three-tier system that functions in the following way:
Tier 1- Class Teacher
Tier 2- Head of the Department
Tier 3- Principal/ Principal in consultation with College Council
Anyone with a genuine grievance may approach the department members in person or consult with the officer-in-charge Grievance Redressal Cell. If the person is unwilling to appear in self, grievances may be dropped in the suggestion box. Grievances may also be sent through email to the officer-in-charge of the Student's Grievance Cell. The Cell then redresses the grievances promptly and judiciously and ensures an effective solution to the student grievances with an impartial and fair approach. Furthermore, this Cell helps students record their complaints and solve their problems related to academics, resources, and personal grievances freely and frankly without fear of victimization. As a result of this mechanism, the College has a pleasant ambient atmosphere and good work culture with in-built goodwill and mutual understanding.
